What I Came From

My grandmother is the little girl in the center with the bow. Aunt Leona is being held on the left. My grandmother's older sisters Hazel (on left) and Ina are the girls in the white dresses.

Why is it that our long-past forebears always look like hicks? My great and great-great grandfathers were country doctors in Kentucky and they still looked like hicks in their 'sitting' photos...must be a common thing for American families of several generations...LOL

Well . . . ummmm. . . those folks weren't doctors. They were actually, um, "hicks", as you call them.

We prefer "hard-working miners", but basically, they were "hicks". Probably didn't even own the furniture they were sitting on, cause the company owned everything.

So yeah, I come from Ohio miners, who had really hard lives. So that is real, actual grit. Sorry.
