Since you are an inveterate blogster, may I ask how you decide what to blog? And when? Do you edit your entries a few times before posting or just post the first draft?
Obviously I'm thinking of starting my own blog, which of course no one else (except a few friends or family members) will read, but I thought I'd give it a shot. Any tricks of the trade would be appreciated, thank you in advance.
I started blogging as the practice of writing. How could I tell my students to write, if I didn't? And I tried to do this exercise everyday, for a while.
No one wants to read what you think everyday. You don't have good things to write everyday. But really, I go into it thinking no one will be really interested.
I don't usually draft. If I do, you won't see it (one of the applications on blogger is to "save as draft" and I rarely publish those . . . or I publish them months later). I don't use names . . . initials and nicknames. I am always aware that someone may just "come across" this.
I occasionally get "flame" comments. There is a way to turn comments off. Keep in mind that once someone has the address, they will always have the address. If I were to do it all again tomorrow, I would go with wordpress or moveable type and my own url. But then again, if I were to do this again tomorrow, I wouldn't use iamsmarterthanu . . . cause I'm really not.
I usually blog in the evening . . . though in the summer it's in the early afternoon. I try for funny, or at least observant. Sometimes I hit that . . . sometimes not.
So good luck. It really has brought me closer to my family and some of my friends. It lets people see the inside of my brain. Which is a good thing most of the time. One always thinks that they think just like everyone else . . . or that everyone else thinks just like them. My blogging has sometimes proved that not true.

And it really is fun. Hope this helps.
Thanks for your great advice! Sorry I didn't respond sooner, I've been working overtime (ugh)...
